Hale Akoakoa is located on a hillside site with panoramic views of Kaua'i’s South Shore. In response to the complex topography of the site, the home is conceived of as three islands connected by bridges. The center ‘island’ is positioned on the center line of the ridge and emerges from the slope defining a platform that holds the main living spaces and swimming pool. This volume creates a protected entry courtyard with views through the home to the ocean in the distance. The two flanking ‘islands’ are bedroom wings. Sheltered in the lee of the trade winds, the Primary Suite faces a quiet valley to the west while guest rooms enjoy sunrise and ocean views to the east.
